The Destructive Nature of Lies

Proverbs 13:5    “A righteous man hates lying:…”

The truth is like a well spring of pure sweet uncontaminated water that is a pleasure to drink from.  There is no fear of what might result from having drunk it.

However, a lie is the exact opposite.  It contaminates and perverts everything that it touches so that it can no longer be trusted or used.  Satan has filled this world full of lies.  He has taken many perfectly good springs of truth and muddied them so that they cannot be identified as anything close to the original sources of life that they once were.  The focus of the enemy of humanity is to confuse and cast doubt on any path that might carry humanity in the right direction.

To lie is to purposefully misguide or mislead a person in a direction that is harmful to their lives.  A righteous person hates for people to be harmed.  A righteous person cares for the feelings of others.  You have heard people say, “What he or she doesn’t know can’t hurt them.”  This statement is a lie created to protect lies and liars.  Just because a person doesn’t know the position that they have been put in because of the dishonesty of another doesn’t make it any less precarious or harmful.  It doesn’t change the reality of the situation even if it is a hidden one for the time being.  The truth is that anyone who consistently and purposefully deceives others through lies will be eventually exposed.  We can play with fire for a while, but eventually the wind is going to blow when we least expect it and carry it outside of our control to the detriment of many.   The only way to cover up a lie is with another lie.  It becomes like a huge gnarled ball of string of which is impossible to decipher where one end starts and another begins.

So do yourself and everyone that you care about a great favor.  Don’t ever allow yourself to become entangled in its web of deceit, and you will never have to worry about having to untangle the knots of lies.
