“Wisdom has hewn out her seven pillars…”
The reference to pillars indicates, as most would imagine, stability. The number seven indicates perfection. Over time God has developed in me certain truths that have helped set standards for my life, determined the way that I view life, and created the processes through which I engage life. I have not been yet perfected, nor do I believe that in this life I will. However, I do believe that these standards have become pillars of stability around which everything else in my life is being built. Not everyone has the same exact standards, and that’s ok. Not everyone has the same calling and emphasis of life either. However, it is very important, as Christians, that we all have strong standards by which we live, and that we continue to develop those pillars in our lives, not only for ourselves, but also for generations to come. This is what a true legacy is. I don’t only want my children to gain wealth, but I want them to know how to be a good steward over it. I don’t only want to leave my children with a happy life, but I want them to know what truly constitutes happiness and how to perpetuate that happiness throughout their lives. I don’t want my children to only have a faith in God, but an understanding of who he is. I want them to know that life is much more than vain riches, fame, and the seduction that this world is so full of. I want them to know that there are some things that are absolutes that they can build their lives upon without fear and doubt.
“Take heed, and beware of coveteousness: For a man’s life does not consist of the abundance of things which he possesses. What will a man profit if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” Jesus Christ
I love reading books that further stabilize my ideas, such as books of history and famous quotes from wise men of both the past and present. I have certain books in my library such as, “America’s God & Country” by Federer, “No Perfect People Allowed” by John Burke, “Centurion Principles”, by Col. Jeff O’Leary, and “Trust” by Les Csorba. These books are filled with interesting quotes and phrases of wisdom. This information creates stability in my life, and my understanding of how it should be lived. However, the most important information that I feed myself with daily is the bible, God’s Word. It is my way of hewing out seven pillars, which I can always depend on to correctly guide my character, life expressions, morality, speech, and calling. The bible is unlike any other book. It cannot be understood with the mind. It is a spiritual book, therefore it can only be revealed through a spiritual realm. God Almighty is the keeper of that realm. He reveals the secrets of that realm only to the humble who diligently seek after it, as it pertains to this life and the one to come.
“God has chosen the foolish things to confound the wise;
God has chosen the weak things to confound the strong; ….
So that no human flesh might be able to boast in his presence.”
